Caribbean Yard Campus is an educational enterprise that is designed to network traditional knowledge systems in the Caribbean.

Earth to Sky 2025 starts February 15

Registration is now open for the 2025 session of Earth to Sky, Caribbean Yard Campus’ flagship course which launched in 2018.

As the first and and only certified opportunity in practical mas-building, this 12-month course provides the Carnival industry  specifically with skilled, highly creative mas-makers. The programme of study incorporates technical crafts — cardboard and wire sculpting, molding and papier mache — design, performance projects and  business elements.

The course is facilitated by an expert team led by Mr Valentine Jerry and Mr. Laurence Richardson, professional mas-builders in Trinidad and Tobago.

On successful completion, candidates are awarded Caribbean Vocational Qualification Level 2, certified by the National Agency of Trinidad and Tobago. This award is recognized by CARICOM member states as well as European Union countries.

Since 2018, mas designers and builders from Barbados, Dominica, St. Vincent, Trinidad and Tobago, the USA and the United Kingdom have participated in and seen their work benefit from this programme,

‘For me, Earth to Sky has been exactly what I have been looking for over the years: a space to connect with fellow Caribbean people who care about the preservation, honoring, and upliftment of the brilliance and beauty of our cultures, especially given the impact of external influences due to globalization. And it’s not just that- beyond the techniques and knowledge we gain, this course embodies how we take care of each other, how we look out for each other as fellow human beings trying to survive and thrive in this world. This has been such a blessing in these challenging, unprecedented times.

— Sherine Andreine Powerful, PhD, Earth to Sky Candidate, 2024/25
