Nou ka alé Sent Lisi, an 8-day trip to St. Lucia

Join Caribbean Yard Campus on an eight-day cultural tour to Saint Lucia to experience the rich traditional and contemporary cultural resources of the island. The tour will include visits to cultural locations such as Mon Repos, the home of Sessenne Descartes, Monchy, a reportable LaWoz community, the Choiseul home of craft and explore the archeological and historic features of the Qualibou caldera in Soufriere.

There will be orientation sessions on the Saint Lucian culture and immersion sessions into Kwéyòl the national language of Saint Lucia. Visits to working artists’ studios, works and homes including Joseph and Jalim Eudovique, the cultural murals of the celebrated Saint Lucia artists Dunstan St. Omer and the Walcott House.

It is an opportunity to join in a koudmen/gayap and experience the cultural characteristics of this Caribbean Island where elements of the African and Amerindian traditions of work, technology rituals and literature survived the ravages of colonization by many European states, some of whom left their fingerprints on social and economic life.

Participants will enjoy the tours of the natural and historic sites such as the Pigeon Island National Landmark, home of the historic Fort Rodney, the Pitons World Heritage Site and experience the cultural and artistic richness in the community of the Laborie. The exchange will culminate with the participation in the La woz celebrations, one of the major traditional flower festivals of Saint Lucia.

The Msg Patrick Anthony in collaboration with the Caribbean Yard Campus and other leading cultural agencies in Saint Lucia will host and facilitate the tour and participants will be staying with the community at the scenic and historic Villa Santa Maria in Castries.

 

The exchange tour will cost US1500.00 per person inclusive of accommodation, air and ground transportation and taxes.
